Kim has not followed a straight line to get to her current vocation. A focused student, she spent college studying Political Science, Economics, and French. Although always interested in art, she realized her desire to become a craftsperson after college. In addition to jewelry, Kim is interested in Moroccan and North African metal crafts. She is currently working on a series of brass boxes and vases.
The person behind bent workshop is Kim Courtade. She is a metals artist, translator, and French teacher. Although born in Boston, she grew up mainly in the Chicago suburbs. She currently resides in Chicago and works out of the Lill Street Art Center.
"North African, Middle Eastern, and Central Asian traditional and folk jewelry designs paired with modern western art, techniques and materials drive the core of my work.'

"My first attraction to the eight pointed star was in Moorish architecture in Spain. I was immediately attracted to its simple, yet exotic, form. Later I learned that stars are symbols of good luck in some Arab cultures. I have many  pieces -including a necklace I wear myself - where I use this form. This form is the basis of my inspiration."
