Kim uses her traditional academic background, her interest in "Le Maghreb", and her love of Art to create distinctive pieces. It is her hope that her work encourages others to learn more about this vibrant and fascinating part of the world.
Throughout her life Kim has always followed her passions. Determined to learn French since she was a toddler, Kim studied abroad early as a sophomore and moved to France after college, where she worked for two years. It is in France that Kim discovered the Maghreb, the word the French use to describe their former colonies in North Africa. Upon returning to the US Kim began studying Arabic and preparing to pursue a Ph.D. in Middle Eastern studies. At the urging of a friend she took a metalsmithing class as a creative outlet, which ended up taking her life in a different direction.
bent workshop’s jewelry collections are inspired by the art of North Africa. These cultures, along with traditional jewelry design, drive the core of Kim’s work. She aspires to make are jewelry with simple, clean lines that retains an air of the exotic. Kim utilizes classic metalsmithing techniques to hand fabricate all pieces.
